Princess Fala | Shorty | Photos

New pictures of our Golion cosplays from AnimeBoston 2013! Yes, my wig wakes me look like Zelda, shh. It’ll be less Zelda-like next time I wear it. Anyway, both costumes were by Darcy (Shorty). One of these days, we hope to have the whole team.

Myself  and my friend Darcy cosplaying Princess Fala and Shorty from Golion! Or Princess Allura and Pidge if you prefer Voltron nomenclature. :P Both of the costumes were by her.

Please ignore my very Zelda-esque wig.

This is a fan parody of Voltron called Voltron: Hell Bent for Leather. It is, to say the least, pretty ridiculous. It was original made June of 1992 and is, of course, on VHS. It’s a great load of fun if you have an appreciation for old fanparodies. It’s totally worth a watch.

It also showed me how different the American Voltron footage looked…

Well, that’s it. I finished Golion.

What a fucking bizarre series. It’s honestly the kind of dumb, overly-violent, idiotic, sexist super robot show you’d expect from the 70’s/early 80’s, but at the same time, it’s just so fucking entertaining. The last few episodes are pretty good, and I can’t imagine myself really seeing Voltron because, well, it kinda ruins some of what makes the show fun, most notably the violence (They’re safe in another dimension!).

I certainly recommend watching it because it’s so fun. It’s worth watching if only to see the version of Voltron that DOESN’T treat its audience like they’re a bunch of fucking morons.

Also, flesh cannon.

I seldom regret toy purchases.

but then, there’s this: Masterpiece Voltron.

I bought him six years ago at AnimeBoston cuz I wanted a big metal robot for my collection. I figured, hey, why not Voltron. I was ecstatic to own the big lug, and pretty much right when I settled at home, I took him out of the package

and the sword immediately snapped at the hilt. I managed to fix it, as you can see, but it turns out some of the lions’ legs have started to crack, too, so I tend to keep them combined.

Oh, did I mention that at the time I bought this, all I’d seen of Voltron were a handful of episodes of the terrible CGI series from the 90’s?

But meh, now that I’m watching Golion he feels more at home in my collection. It’d be kinda silly to get rid of a toy from a series I’ve actually seen at this point!

Go Lion episode 11: "The Red Rain of Hell"

  • Princess Fala: Oh the red rain is so pretty! It's like strawberry juice!
  • Raible: That is blood you dumb ho.

Never watch the first episode of Voltron after watching the first disk of Go Lion.

You’ll have an aneurysm.

One has to wonder what the history of giant robot anime in the US would have been like had WEP gotten Daltanias for Voltron like they asked for instead of GoLion.
