This photo always cheers me up a bit. It’s a front-page article from 1955 about Christine Jorgensen, one of the first women to have sex-reassignment surgery.

Since the text is a bit small and I couldn’t find a larger copy, here’s what the small blurb says:

A World of a Difference

George W. Jorgensen, Jr., son of a Bronx carpenter, served in the Army for two years and was given honorable discharge in 1946. Now George is no more. After six operations, Jorgensen’s sex has been changed and today she is a striking woman, working as a photographer in Denmark. Parents were informed of the big change in a letter Christine (that’s her new name) sent to them recently.

This article is 58 years old, and it’s more respectful of Christine’s pronoun choices and name than some publications are today. It makes me happy to see a newspaper be respectful of a trans person’s choice of name and pronouns like that.

i hate posts like

“i wish DICKS were oversexualized then MEN would know what its like to be stared at and everyone would judge their DICKS and BALLS because DICKS AND BALLS arent VIOLENTLY OVERSEXUALIZED”

because its like

Dicks ARE violently oversexualized, just not for men. Women with penises can’t exist as nonsexual beings. We literally have to shove our genitals inside of ourselves so that someone walking down the street doesnt see a bulge, flip absolute shit, and beat us to death for existing. Men use their privilege and social entitlement to protect them from genital related violence, while women with the same genital configuration suffer.

Like, fantasies of stripping men of their social armor are fine and good but it just makes me wonder as a trans woman where girls like me would be in this dichotomy.

Over a year and a half on hormones. My transition hasn’t been the clearest path but I am so happy that I am on it.

On average, you have a 1 in 18,989 chance of being murdered

A trans person has a 1 in 12 chance of being murdered

The average life span of a cis person is about 75-90

The average life expectancy of a trans person is 23-30 years old

75% of people killed in anti LGBT hate crimes are poc

Think about this the next time you go crying over “cisphobia” and “reverse racism”

This makes me UNBELIEVABLY upset and scared 😞

Maybe the greatest line ever spoken.

Had to re-reblog. This is just like the ultimate trans woman motto ever! It’s so true.

So many different groups treat us like shit and deny our desirability while still sexualizing us. It takes a shit ton of confidence to make it out here.

dismantle toxic transmasculinity.

trans guys: you don’t have to “prove” your male-ness. you especially don’t have to prove it by embracing and enforcing misogyny and transmisogyny.

you don’t have to mock womanhood to distance yourself from it.

super this. I didn’t know it was a thing until i met trans men who were utterly disgustingly misogynistic.

I think a lot of people have trouble understanding transgender issues because they try to see themselves as trans, but come at it from the wrong direction. i.e. a cis woman tries to understand transness by going, “what if I felt like/wanted to be a man” when she should be approaching it as “what if I, a woman, was so easily mistaken for a man that I had to pretend to be one”,

And I think this is something to keep in mind and to explain away when trying to get these matters across to people who’re new to the idea.

i genuinely never thought of it that way but dang this makes a ton of sense now
