ok, so imma lay down the law on Chelsea Manning.
I don’t care whether or not you agree or disagree with what she did, or her motives, or whatever. What she did was for the greater good, yes, and her motive isn’t exactly something I disagree with. But it was still a crime, and honestly, I think she got off lucky with her sentence. But I’m not here to discuss that.
What matters to me is the fact that she’s one of my own, and deserves a chance just like me and so many of my friends to transition safely… which she won’t get. I want her to have as much access to surgery and hormones as the rest of us, and if that means taxpayer funded hormones and surgery? So be it. Yeah, she’ll be getting something I couldn’t have, but the cost is the whole, y'know, prison thing.
I’m glad to hear she finally “officially” came out (cough and picked a better name), even if it means losing the support of a lot of people; namely, white cis gay men. She has a tough life ahead of her, and I hope for her sake, and all of our sakes, that it goes a lot better than it probably will.
