The thing everyone should be mad about is that it’s just a stupider, less personal version of the original storyline. OF ALL THE STAR TREK STORIES YOU COULD HAVE CREATED? THIS IS WHAT YOU DID!?!
I disagree, I felt the movie was great save for the fucking rehashed scene from TWOK which really, really took you out of the movie. The story was BARELY the same.

Robert Orci, one of the movie’s screenwriters, said, uh, this character probably had his appearance surgically altered.
Which in the context of the movie makes perfect sense, but I think they should’ve made some mention to it.

in DS9, Dr. Bashir was able to alter Odo, Sisko, and O'Brien to look like Klingons. If you can change someone’s species (and in one unfortunate episode, sex…) changing someone’s race is nothing.
One of the big things with the character was the fact that his identity was being kept a secret. Frankly, if a brown guy played him, everybody would’ve known who the character was. Not only that, I’m sure there’d be other people upset that in this movie, well, he starts off as a fucking TERRORIST. That wouldn’t exactly look good, now would it?
Should they have cast a more racially accurate actor in the first place? Yeah, I think they should have. Did Thundersnatch play the role amazingly? Absolutely.
Actually I believe he is a great character and a very good villan. Look at the character. First off I'd like to point out how genius he is. He thinks up that entire plan to get Caption Kirk and Scotty to do things for him. On top of that he knows exactly how to select words so people believe him. And no he is not a 100% misunderstood character but if you think about it from a simple view he takes "what would you do for family" and puts an evil spin on it. Also Benedict plays him amazingly :)

I think you’ve missed the point of the post.
Khan is a good villain. An excellent one, in any incarnation of Trek.
Khan is a bad PERSON which is what makes him a good CHARACTER. That was the point I’m making. People are going to turn him into their new hubby like they did with Loki et all, when, well, he’s a pretty fuckin’ bad person.

He is EVIL. He is a vengeance-driven asshole who only went into cryosleep to avoid being captured by the authorities of that era.

Yeah, he’s Khan. And honestly? The movie is really good.
As for Khan’s ethnicity, eh, whatever. If they made him a brown guy, people would be up in arms like, “oh you made the brown guy a terrorist, huh???”
But honestly he did a great job in the role, and is a MUCH different Khan the one from TOS.
(oh and by the way Ricardo Montalban was white-hispanic)
