He is not “misunderstood”

He is a fucking TYRANT that ruled over a huge chunk of Earth for a good chunk of the 20th Century (in Star Trek terms, anyway).

He is EVIL. He is a vengeance-driven asshole who only went into cryosleep to avoid being captured by the authorities of that era.

And you know what? This is gonna sound social justice-y as hell but

Something tells me you wouldn’t be woobifying him if he wasn’t played by a white guy.

You know what would be great?

If people would stop jumping to the conclusion that just because someone might not be Benedict’s biggest fan then that doesn’t mean we hate him or don’t want him in Star Trek. It’s just that there is only so much obnoxious Benedict-stanning that some of can take before we start to get really frustrated.

This is not the Benedict movie with occasional bits of Star Trek thrown in.

It’s Star Trek Into Darkness featuring a hell of a lot more actors that are not Benedict Cumberwhosit.

So please stop focusing on him. Please stop flooding our tags with posts that aren’t relevant. Please stop saying that Benedict is the only reason that people like Star Trek or are going to see Star Trek. Just please stop.

Benedict is not the main actor, I mean for christ’s sake he’s not even the main supporting actor. And it’s great that you love him, really it is, and that you want to support his career, but please cease and desist trying to make this entire movie/series about him.

What you are doing, unintentionally or not, is hurtful and disrespectful to those of us who have been awaiting this movie far longer than Benedict’s casting. 

We love Star Trek because it’s Star Trek and we probably will continue to love it until we die.

And guess what. I can pretty much guarantee that Benedict will be in this movie and then we’ll probably get a new villain for the next movie. After this movie, Benedict will be gone doing other stuff, other movies or whatever, and we will still have a continuation of Star Trek movies after him. Because, believe it or not, Benedict is not the most important person/factor in Star Trek.

Star Trek has survived 40+ years before Benedict and will continue to, pardon the pun but, trek on after him.

So please don’t assume that we hate him, because a lot of us don’t, I actually like him quite a bit, but the rest of us understand that there is more to our fandom than one side character.

Besides saying that you only like Star Trek because of Benedict is like saying that you only enjoy the buffet for the salad dressing.

Improving the new Star Trek XII poster:

Okay so first let’s look at some previous star trek posters:

What are the main features of these?

1. giant floating heads of the main characters
2. rainbows
3. space
4. sparkles/lens flare

Clearly this is a winning formula, given how many decades they’ve been doing it like this. So what about that new poster?

This has NONE of those things! Also, as someone else wisely pointed out, it looks pretty much like every other action movie poster lately.

But can we improve it?

YES WE CAN.
