who gives a shit if somebody is proud of being scottish or swedish or french or whatever? you’re making it sound like white people are the only ones with heritage from specific countries
inb4 “white tears” and “i have every right to shit on white people because oppression” tell me, how many middle-class teens/20-somethings that post on tumblr know actual oppression??? and don’t fucking get me started on the whole “you are responsible for the genocide of my people that your ancestors committed” bullshit

ehhhh i take kind of a weird stance on this stuff. In America white people are just white people. We’re pretty homogenized here, and it kinda rings true for all racial groups cuz that’s how we do it. But people forget that doesn’t ring true for say, Europe, where you’re not just white, you’re also Anglo-Saxon, Slavic, Gaelic, etc. Discrimination from white people against other white people sure as hell was a thing decades ago, namely the Irish and the Italians, but other time they were able to be assimilated.
However I do feel shitting on people for being proud of their heritage is fucking nonsense. Like shit, my ancestry is nothing but British and Canadian, I’d love to have something cool like Swedish or German in there.
As for the “responsible for oppression” thing, that’s kinda BS. However, white people DO benefit from the oppression of other races, even when not actively causing it. Same holds true for homophobia, transphobia, sexism etc.
Ultimately this is tumblr kiddies being tumblr kiddies and not thinking before they speak. I’d mention that I studied this for a couple years in college but I’d probably get called classist for that…
