I really hate it when my queer trans friends get pissy about heteronormative trans people getting media attention. Well, guess what. They’re the ones doing the legwork at the cost of being not being stealth when they easily could be. Plus, the cis/hetero people will see them and go, “hey, they can be JUST LIKE US” which is the first step in getting people to understand that “we’re all equal AND we’re all different”. Yeah it takes awhile and it sucks but that’s how it goes.
and I’ll be honest my queer trans friends are WAY more fun but I tend to have some heteronormative trans friends because even they need to talk about trans stuff with other trans people sometimes.
I have one friend who basically finished her transition at 18, and she’s our age. She’s pretty successfully stealth, and when she was away in Chile teaching English, she was pretty much super frustrated and just needed someone to talk about trans shit with.
