around the house we have this running joke about haman and eggs.

life out on axis generally sucked, mostly due to overcrowding and resource shortages. i know cylinder colonies grow food in those secondary cylinders (as we see at the beginning of Zeta) but axis was never designed for civilians or to support as many people as it had to after the conclusion of the OYW.

“nice food” (fresh food, presumably) seems to be a thing for spacenoids everywhere. but on axis the shortage would have been even more serious. probably they ate a lot of rations and whatever they could grow in limited space, i.e. textured algae and lots of it.

and so, when the push to outfit a fucking asteroid with nuclear propulsion engines was in full swing along with the “war effort” i.e. construction of Haman’s vast mobile suit army, our theory goes that Haman was called to make a bunch of speeches to rally the people of axis. and Haman, precious Haman, would be like 18 or 19 at this point, and while she certainly can give rousing speeches we think that after a certain amount of “for the honor of princess mineva” and “we haven’t died out in this hateful place yet, so let’s go give em hell” her speeches would have devolved to her clutching the podium with one hand and the microphone in the other and screaming,

“You know what Earthnoids have, they have eggs! Eggs! You know what we have? Algae biscuits! And that yellow spread that doesn’t taste like anything! While further into the Earth sphere even the colonies have butter for their bread! We don’t even have bread! My people, we fight for justice, for freedom, for the eggs of tomorrow! EGGS!” and then she is gently but firmly removed from the podium by her attendants and medical team, but it turns out to be an extremely good rallying cry. eggs! everyone misses eggs, let’s go get some fuckin eggs.

during the Gryps conflict, when Axis’ internet and the general Earth Sphere internet get hooked up for the first time, the video of the famous “Eggs” speech leaks, goes viral, and after it turns out to be real, becomes a media firestorm for a few days. a lot of people make a joke out of it but the older spacenoids and even some earthnoids who know what food insecurity is all about have their hearts swayed in favor of the second coming of zeon.

there you have it. that’s what my icon is about, getting so lonely and nostalgic for decent food you strap rockets on your asteroid and start a war. eggs.
