It’s been awhile, so I can’t really remember. Plus we’re talking Japanese gendered language versus English gendered language which makes things sticky. I remember one bit with Tieria using a masculine form of “I am” then going down the stairs (so to speak) to a very feminine form.

Well, it still gets used as its actual meaning but yeah, there’s a subset of culture that attributed “trap” to people like me and it stuck hardcore. Shit sucks.
oh man, i'm sorry so many cosplay people aren't supportive. you'd think they'd be more open-minded people. just kind of a random thought, i had never actually heard "trap" as a slur until a while back. (i don't spend much time around other people in general , but my extended family's pretty damn ignorant so i'm surprised i hadn't heard them say it). but now i'll notice people using it occasionally and i don't understand how they think it's even remotely acceptable.
“Trap” is mostly used among Internet circles, originating from Admiral Ackbar’s “It’s a Trap!” line from Return of the Jedi. I think it started around 2005 or so. It’s one of the more damaging slurs because it reinforces the belief that we exist to “fool” straight men (spoilers: we don’t do that).
It’s most often used to describe similar characters (who aren’t usually trans) in anime.
