Katsucon 2014: Zeon Rally for Gundam’s 35th

Since some of us have been discussing the ideas of awesome new Gundam cosplays, we figured it would be high time to do a huge group of Zeon cosplayers together. And we figured since next years is Gundam’s 35th, it’d be the perfect opportunity.

So here are the guidelines:

1. Characters must be Zeon-affiliated and in some form of Zeon uniform. Meaning, if you’re going to cosplay, say, Bernie, use his Zeon uniform, and not his civilian jacket. 
2. Duplicates are welcome, but opt for alternate outfits if possible. We already have one Mineva Zabi in her Unicorn outfit, but if you wanted to do her ZZ outfit instead, that would be preferable.
3. Skill level doesn’t really matter. We’re trying less for coordination and more for “holy crap that’s a lot of Zeons”. But of course, the nicer uniforms the better.
4. Generic Soldiers are ok. If you’d rather just be random Zeon #56675 instead of a named character, go for it!

Oh, and if you’re wondering why we’re doing this now when the con is still 8 months away, I just figured it’d be good to let everyone know with plenty of time to do their outfits.

Here’s what we have so far:

• Haman Khan: silencedrowns (ZZ outfit)
• Cima Garahau: relenawarcraft
• Angelo Sauper: jetspectacular
• Mineva Zabi: sumptus (Unicorn Princess outfit)
• Garma Zabi: garmafashion
• Char Aznable: katz-is-douche (CCA outfit)
• Johnny Ridden: megamarines
• Norris Packard
• Anavel Gato: thegreatsg
• Mashymre Cello: moonracehipster
• Ramba Ral: vertical-inc/Ed
• Chara Soone: oliviazira
• Bernie Wiseman: We have the outfit for him, we’ll just find the measurements and see if anyone is willing to borrow it for the shoot/con. You’d have to supply your own boots, wig, and gloves, however. The outfit is roughly a men’s Small/Medium.

Characters we’re looking for: (We don’t need all of them, and you’re more than willing to do someone not on the list. Starred characters are ones we REALLY want)

Diana and Sophie’s cosplay supply adventures

So AX was this past weekend which was a lot of fun, despite some ups and downs. But the real fun came after the con. Our whole group, including my roommate Diana, went to Little Tokyo for some delicious Curry House, but while we were waiting we stopped in Kinokuniya. There, we found this:

This book has references for just about every animated military uniform for the universal century… and yes, that includes the Zanscare Empire and Crossbone Vanguard. We could NOT turn this down. It’s way too awesome of a resource.

Yesterday, we went into the Fashion District of LA to look for cheap fabric and stuff. I was pretty much bored to tears for most of it since I don’t have the cash to get stuff for future cosplay projects, and I’m pretty much focused solely on Attack on Titan right now. We searched for the most elusive fabric in the known universe: The perfect Zeon gold, which Diana needs for her ZZ Haman costume. Then, we went to what could only be called “The Kosher Jewish Fabric Store” and found… this:

It’s more beautiful than we ever could’ve imagined.

Needless to say, she bought six yards for any future Zeon projects, including the two we’re planning for early next year. I’ll give you more details on that later…
