Cisgender language: “I love drag queens!”

English translation: “I find the idea of men wearing dresses and atypical femininity funny or something to gawk at. I do not understand that “passing” as a concept is something trans women deal with for safety reasons, because non-passing trans women are at high risk for violence. Drag for me (and many drag performers) does not represent that gender expression can be fluid, but rather makes a point of laughing at people who do not 100% pass as the gender they are performing as and gasping in shock at people who do pass because we see trans and/or nonbinary people as less than human and incapable of beauty or looking anything like attractive cis people.”

We don’t need European fairy tales retold with dark-skinned characters

We need non-European fairy tales being told

Race-bending isn’t the answer here

Realizing that there are children who have non-European heritages and cultures who need their own stories being given representation is the answer

Shortpacked!: Genderless

this notion that “trans guys pass better” is actually a function of transmisogyny. we shouldn’t imply there is some mechanism of human sexual development that makes trans men inherently “pass” or “blend” better than trans women; both trans men and trans women who have transitioned post-puberty end up with secondary sex characteristics commonly associated with both men and women.

the main difference in trans men’s and women’s experiences with “passing” or “blending” is that men’s bodies are not deconstructed and scrutinized in the same ways that womens bodies are. there are no stand up comedians or prime time television shows humiliating men for wearing compression vests, having top surgery scars, or having small hands, for example.
