Yes it is. But if you’re going to knock of a series because of art, what of L-Gaim and its terrible art style? How about Dunbine and its oogly characters? That was how the 80s were. You’ll lose an era of anime if you judge it that way.

Honestly? The art isn’t Dancouga’s only problem. The characters are flat, the story doesn’t make much sense, a lot of the plots are absurd (THE SWISS ARE ALWAYS PREPARED FOR WAR) and it’s filled with logical failings. Also, if you’re a show made to sell toys, specifically, ONE TOY, why do you need to wait five episodes to introduce every part, ten episodes to see them transform, and FIFTEEN episodes to finally see them combine?!
