Genderqueer Umbrella? Can it be a thing?

tastyopinion:

Why can’t we separate bigender, agender, genderfluid and all the other gender identities from being transsexual. I am perfect fine with people being gnederfluid, or agender or bidender, polygender, whatever you want to be, but I only wish for 5 things.

1) If you are going to get hormones please do not lie to get them, tell your therapist that you are genderfluid or bigender, whatever your identity is tell them you are that. Lying will end up hurting up FtMs and those who have your identity? Why? Well simple, you are distorting what people think being FtM is, and you’re making it so it appears that genderfluid or whatever you are, that they don’t really exist. If you want treatments for your identity and you want the public to know about your identity then when you go to get treatment be honest about your identity, people will start to notice genderfluid people or genderqueer people exist, they will start developing ways to help YOUR case.

The treatment for being an FTM is not the same as one for being genderfluid, if you want hormones and you want treatments specialized to your identity be open about it with your therapist.

2) Instead of there being a transgender umbrella there should be a genderqueer or whatever umbrella.

This stops confusion for many people, you believe your gender is an identity, thats great however being trans is a medical condition, it is treated medically. Yes this is my opinion but it would be a lot easier to have Transsexuals have their place and then have non-binary/genderqueer people have their own space, this allows for people who are genderqueer to seek help from people who KNOW what they’re going through. The experience of an FtM or a MtF is going to be a LOT different then someone who is non-binary. Having a genderqueer* umbrella will just solve a lot of problems.

3. If you label as non-binary, or anything but male, you are not FtM. FtM means Female to male, this means you were born biologically female and you are transitioning to male. If you do not feel you are male, you are not FtM, you are genderfluid or genderqueer. You can have your identify but again if you want YOUR identify to be known them claim your identity, if you are genderfluid do not say you’re FtM that just makes it seem like Genderfluid people don’t exist, stand up for your rights. A lot of you rant and rave about being proud of being trans* but you do not claim your own identity, if you are proud of who you are then say you are genderfluid, or bi-gender whatever you are. Don’t say you’re FtM.

4. Be safe about your binding, a lot of non-binary people I see binding dangerously, this goes for FtMs too, No matter who you are even if you are Cis, do not use acewrap or ducttape or seram(?) wrap to bind. Underworks has fairly cheap binders, and http://www.thelevamentumproject.com/?page_id=4 <- That place has binders for even cheaper. Be safe, do not tell younger FtMs or Non-binary people to do unsafe binding techniques.

5. Have some simple respect for people, screaming die cis scum to everyone you meet is not going to help you, or anyone else. I can bet cis people are creating the hormones you taking, the binders you wear, just stop. Some cis people can do horrible things but some trans people can do horrible things too. I have a lot more accepting cis friends then I do trans friends, it depends on the person, not their gender.
