If Evangelion, Code Geass, Gundam SEED/Wing/00, and Gurren Lagann are your only exposures to giant robots, don’t act like you know the genre. (◡‿◡✿)
Seriously, don’t. Don’t use terms like ‘deconstruction’, ‘reconstruction’, or basically anything TvTropes says (such as how GaoGaiGar and TTGL were direct responses to Evangelion’s grimdark).
A lot of what that site says in general is bullshit (seriously, check out the Something Awful threads about the place)- but it’s especially bad with mecha, since they regurgitate long since proven false rumors from /m/.
Like how Loran from Turn A Gundam was originally a girl- he actually got more feminine as time went on.
