» On the misogyny perpetuated against Lalah Sune: Anyone aware of the original Gundam Universe should know about the love triangle between opposing pilots Amuro Ray, Char Aznable and Lalah Sune. They should also be aware of the fact that Lalah grew up working in an Indian brothel (because her parents died in the war) before she was rescued by Char and became his protégé, so to speak. I think people sometimes dislike her because she worked at a brothel as a child. It’s as if she isn’t worthy of being loved by Char and Amuro because of her background. Lalah is so much more than her history. She’s an incredibly strong and influential character. Tomino probably gave her this tragic backstory in part to demonstrate the lengths someone will be forced to go to in order to survive and help humanize sex workers, especially those as young as Lalah was. The fact that she could be so utterly loved by and influence two of the most pivotal characters in the Gundam universe speaks volumes to how meaningful her existence was in spite of the adversities she faced. And people just want to spit on her and call her “hooker” as if that’s all she ever was.
And that’s fucking Star Trek. That’s Star Trek. That’s it right there. There it is. Star Trek. Optimism and Idealism in the face of rampant bullshit. I wanna stick this up JJ’s craw and smack him with fifty DVD’s of Into Darkness. I know, I know, this was TNG. But TOS had the same backbone of idealism.
-so, convention season is heating up and I’ve got $500 burning a hole in my pocket that would be of use to struggling cosplayer’s needing help to attend cons.
