controversial opinion time
one thing that seems to come up every now and then is the demedicalization of transness, which I have hella problems with.
now ultimately, I don’t consider being trans to be a mental problem. Just the opposite, in fact: I consider it to be a physical one, hence why we take medicine, seek out potential surgeries, etc. I feel like if being trans gets demedicalized it’ll ultimately hurt those of us who DO seek out surgeries, since it would likely prevent insurance from covering them, and we ALL know these surgeries are life-saving.
Additionally I kinda feel… uncomfortable with nonbinary people using the label of “transgender”? I KNOW I’m going to get shit for that, but I feel as though being transgender implies, well, transitioning, from one “side” to the other. Of course, I’m not putting down people who are nonbinary, not at all. What I’d like to see is the T removed from LGBT, and used for a new acronym, maybe something like TANGB (Transgender/Agender/Nonbinary/Genderqueer/Bigender). I feel like it’s safer and less messy than cramming us all into one letter.
idk I’m probably gonna get a lot of shit about this and i’m totally rambling so I’m willing to hear arguments.
