I love it when tumblr tries to act not-cissexist and inadvertently becomes cissexist.
Example: Equating periods to “people with vaginas”.
On its surface, doesn’t sound too bad! People who with vaginas do tend to have periods, and obviously more than women have vaginas.
Buuut vaginas and periods? Not exactly mutually inclusive.
- Cis women who have had hysterectomies don’t have periods.
- Trans guys who have been on T for awhile (consistently) don’t have periods, and again, hysterectomies.
- Post-op trans women inherently cannot have periods (and seriously, stop asking us if we get them after surgery).
So! While the initial idea does a good job trying to avoid cissexism, a few things should’ve been taken into account. A more accurate phrase would be “people with ovaries” or “people with uteruses”… “uteri”… is that right? Anyway. You get the point.
