I just got birthnamed by one of the cafeteria workers
what the fuck
I just told her, “uh, my name is Sophia” and didn’t make a scene but
I’ve had “Sophia” on my debit card since January
and wasn’t the fact that I’ve been DRESSED ~“LIKE A GIRL”~ FOR THE PAST SEVEN MONTHS AN INDICATION THAT I PROOOBABLY WOULDN’T WANT TO BE CALLED THAT NAME I MEAN COME OOOON
…
Visual cues are kind of an important part of being trans. Generally if you see someone dressed “like a girl”, it is logical for the average person to view them “as female”. As the old saying goes, “the clothes make the man”. This is why I don’t care for the whole “asking for pronouns” thing unless it’s in a specific safe space. If some random person asked me what my pronouns were, I’d be kind of offended, because it would be an indicator that I’m not doing my job. Whether you like it or not, presentation is key.
