Atheist billboard in Times Square
What exactly is the point of putting a billboard like this up?
I mean. First of all. It’s so rude.
Second what a waste of money. Awesome, Atheists, you have money. But you’re going to use it for a billboard smashing people’s beliefs instead of, you know, actually helping people.Lastly it has Santa on it. It’s basically like “Dude, your fictional character Jesus is so lame we should be celebrating this other fictional character instead.” The tooth fairy sucks balls, but praise be to unicorns.
A lot less rude than telling people they’re going to be tortured for eternity if they don’t conform to ancient ideals created by the wealthy elite.
I personally think Santa and commercial Christmas is annoying but pointing out that the bible is a myth isn’t dissuading people from having a good time.
Also, a funny thing about atheism, you can’t group every atheist into one statement because there’s no doctrine that unites them, nor splintered ones like religion.
I don’t think a billboard in a prominent public place bashing anyone’s belief system is acceptable though? Not all of us force our beliefs down the throats of others, just the same as not all atheists go around bashing the beliefs of others. It’s a 2-sided coin, as always.
Personally, I don’t see it as much of an attack on the religious beliefs, but rather, the whole “War on Christmas” thing, showing the people who think that’s true that yes, plenty of atheists do celebrate Christmas, just in a different way. Really, the holiday’s kind of lost most, if not all, of its religious meaning in favor of capitalism.
