with regard to what i posted about not making fun of the younger cosplayers
I really do believe that being cruel to the younger cosplayers just because their costume isn’t OK or whatever is absolutely NOT CALLED FOR and if you’re doing that because you’re some sort of costuming elitist you are being a douche.
HOWEVER.
Age is not actually an excuse for inappropriate behavior. If you see someone behaving inappropriately, no matter what their age, ask them politely to stop. Explain why what they’re doing (making too much noise, literally running through the halls, not sealing body paint, throwing things, etc) is not OK in a public setting, and that they shouldn’t do that.
This does not count as cruelty. I remember being a 14-year-old weeaboo and let’s face it: I ACTED LIKE A DUMBFUCK. But there were people around who kindly corrected me. Now I’m the grandma kindly correcting 14-year-old weeaboos. It’s the circle of conventions. Be polite, but don’t think that because someone is young and excited it means you can’t do anything but say positive things to them.
Actually, this goes for everybody. I’m all in favor of constructive costume criticism when asked for, and polite even when unasked for notifications of inappropriate behavior at a convention. If you want to call me a bitch for that, fine, I’m Princess Azula.
