Captain America is the single worst film I have seen in recent memory.
Fuck Chris Evans.
Fuck Marvel.
It’s disgusting that, in this era, they had the gall to make it in the way that they did. Between retconning historical racism and sexism (something even Michael fucking Bay avoided in Pearl Harbour and that film was SHIT), the fact that Evans’ character is soaked in nice-guy misogyny and the disgusting and hypocritical idealisation of the American soldier as the paragon of strength, loyalty and integrity, I’m surprised that there wasn’t a PSA halfway through telling the audience to support the white troops in Afghanistan.
Add in some of the worst CGI I’ve seen since Sky Captain (all the actors had green-tinged faces), less historical accuracy in creating period architecture and design than Michael Bay can be bothered doing and the complete butchery of the canon and refusing to acknowledge the reality of the jingoistic and farcical nature of Captain America, they perpetuate the sort of culture that leads to warmongering, the blind patriotism and self-pity which has been seen as a contributing factor to atrocities like My Lai and Abu Grahib.
I realise I should have expected it would be bad, and I did, but I never thought that they would have the nerve and audacity to create such a disgusting film.
“I didn’t like Captain America because it wasn’t racist/sexist enough”
Only on Tumblr, ladies and gentlemen.
