no but seriously

Nothing against Gurren Lagann at all, but when you’ve seen as much from the genre as I have, the show just seems, well, kinda insignificant against shows like…

to name a few, anyway.

Gurren Lagann’s a good show, don’t get me wrong. But it’s more of a tribute to me than a standalone great mecha show. Trust me, I’m not one of those people who hates it because it’s popular. I reserve that hate for Code Geass.

GL isn’t the sort of show like a lot of the ones you named that’s going to end up changing things or having much of a lasting effect on the mecha genre, because, like you said, it’s more of a tribute to mecha anime. But it’s still a great show, partly because it’s such a love letter to super robots and the genre in general.

Also I’m disappointed at the total lack of Go Nagai in the stuff you posted.

As much as I love Go Nagai, aside from Shin Mazinger, none of his stuff, past or present, is really… I guess accessible for everyone these days.

The one I’m kicking myself for forgetting is Giant Robo, however… d'oh.
