is transformers anime or is it not because the first time i saw it on tv was that one series with the minicons and that was pretty anime but i just dont know
i mean it seems pretty american but who in america would think of cool transforming robots and stuff.

Transformers is, largely, American. The cartoon in the 80’s was produced by Sunbow and Marvel. Several Japanese studios have done Transformers over the years (namely Toei in the late 80’s) but it’s still primarily a North American venture.
The toys, however, all came from Japanese toylines from Takara, mainly the Microchange and Diaclone toylines which were spun off of Microman. Some other figures came from other toylines; the most famous being Jetfire, who is, literally, a VF-1S Super Valkyrie from Macross.
