Whats wrong with it? Or rather, whats wrong with it that isn’t already present in any other show/game/etc. franchise? Morons are plenty in any remotely popular fandom.

Looking at all the stuff thats front paged on EQD, doing whatever on ponychan, etc. make me find the fandom to be awesome. Whether its the fanworks created, charity stuff, staff interaction or whatnot.

it went from a “hey it’s cool that we all like this show kind of targeted for young girls that can be appreciated by lots of different kinds of people, we have a cool and fun fandom solidarity!!”

to being kind of overrun by shallow, misogynistic Redditors being entitled about their horsewife and generally being unpleasant people to share a fandom with.  also this anecdote, as our cosplay experience was not as pleasant as ellarcy’s, unfortunately.  

additionally worth mentioning was recently recalling with rainsweet the comments we got on tumblr and 4chan about our pony costumes afterwards, which were primarily either sexual in nature in reference to my Dash or shallow and shitty in reference to her Pinkie Pie.  neither of which are particularly okay with me or things that make us want to cosplay ponies again, so!

there’s no doubt to me that it’s still a great show (though I haven’t watched this season, my fandom attention has lay elsewhere) or that there are still great, creative and talented people in the fandom, but the atmosphere is not the one I enjoyed when I first got into it and not one that really jives with my style these days!  that’s all.
