protip, if you recognize someone you know, dont shout peoples names at anime conventions, esp because in that environment you dont actually know: what name they’re going by at the moment, what they do or don’t want internet meetups/online friends or recent con acquaintances to know, what their badge name & legal name reads, or whether they’re exercising their ability to use a con as a safe space to go by a name they prefer over the one or ones you may have known them as.

even if it takes you a little longer to catch up to someone, tap on their shoulder politely, and say “hey! long time no see!” it can be much better for their comfort level than yelling “WHAT’S UP ANDREW” and seeing the people hanging with your friend going “oh my god, Kaji, your real name is andrew?”
