Trans Visibility Day
Hey everyone, I know that after the wonderful Blackout that happened last Friday people are rearing to go with ideas for making new events and raising awareness for various things and that is FANTASTIC. I’m so glad!!
One thing has been bothering me, though. that thing is #Transtakeover.
I reblogged the post myself in a really rushed frenzy because I am Transgender and I would love for us to have representation but then I realized something.
Blackout was created for the sole purpose of erasing the negative social stigma that surrounds POC. Selfies were a fantastic way to do this. In this day and age poc do not get enough representation in media.
If you want to raise awareness for the Trans* community, International Trans Visibility day is March 31st!
Let’s do something else. Let’s celebrate what being Trans* means to each and every one of us. So I’m asking that instead of trying to encroach on Blackout, Why not raise awareness on a day that is specifically for us?
So, march 31st post some selfies, If you have before and after pictures post them,
but most importantly, post words of encouragement for one another.
I don’t need to tell any of you the number of Trans* suicides so far this year. It is a burden that weighs on my heart every day.
Let us band together, we are a family, but let us not do it in a way that is intrusive on poc.
