When you discuss the wage gap, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Only white women make $0.77 to a man’s dollar.
- Black women make about $0.68 to a man’s dollar.
- Latina women make about $0.58 to a man’s dollar.
Intersectionality matters.
I will keep reblogging this to point out that disabled people, including men, make 22 cents on the dollar. Mostly because it is legal to pay us below minimum wage, but whatevs.
Original post is somewhat false. That only applies to white, black, and latina cis women. Of those trans women that are lucky enough to be employed (usually white) the average is $0.68 to a man’s dollar. Keep in mind though, that vast swaths of trans women (especially twoc) aren’t able to find legal sources of income at all, and thus aren’t even included in the study. If they were, that number would be far lower (exactly how much further, I don’t have the data to say, but given the number of us that are forced to engage in sex work just to survive, [one study pegged it around 2/3] no number would be too low to surprise me.)
